I don’t know a lot about Scott McKnight but after reading his latest post (recommended by taddelay, a blogger I casually follow and has posted here before), I want to know a little bit more about him. It appears that he and Dan Kimball (one of the only ones in the “Emergent” movement that I have liked some of his writings) are doing some new things together. I have plenty of more research to do there of course.

Anyways, this lead to another blog which was a response from Tony Jones (an “Emergent” leader who I have not been impressed with in much of any way at all).

In this blog, Tony joins Scott in their disregard for titles such as emergent and emerging. That titles mean nothing and what matters is the heart of any of these discussions.

Emmys 2008

I love watching the Emmys (I miss being able to watch them with my friend Holly) but this year, more than any other, is anyone keeping count? I get it, I get it….Hollywood does not like our president and are democrates. I can tell by the countless jokes, slams, and snide comments from multiple presenters, winners, and hosts. Can we just enjoy the awards without the political commentary?  I don’t remember anyone saying “Great performance! Can you tell us your views on the political landscape of our country?”

I am OK with celebs giving thier views when asked just like anyone else in the free country but come on…don’t muck up the Emmys.

I have always wondered where Oprah fell in the area of Christianity. It seems early on that she was a believer but over the last several years, she has had more and more “spiritual” authors, guest, and statements that made me wonder if she was more New Age or even a Universalist.

I just saw today that Bill Maher has a movie coming out called “Religulos”. In the same spirit of Michael Moore type movies, Maher will make a nice little agenda piece against the dangers and lunicy of people who buy into “religion”. I’m sure it will be witty, sharp, and not worth my time (though I admit I will probably watch it once it hits DVD out of morbid curiosity.)

Why the distaste on my part? Can’t I handle someone who disagress with me? Sure I can. If you really look at it, Mahr’s not even coming after just Christianity but all religions. Don’t I have a sense of humor? Sure I do. Actually I used to watch Mahr’s show on HBO and then ABC before he got fired over his 9/11 comments. However, either he has gotten worse or I have grown out of it but Mahar just strikes me as an arrogant, bitter man who wields his little bit of knowledge like a loaded gun.

Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.” Gen. 25: 21

We have all had our share of days that were devastating. It may have been the loss of a love one, a marriage ending, financial failure, onset of a serious illness or any number of troubles. For me, one of the worse days I have experienced was the day I found out I was not able to have biological children.

Lately I have been doing more blogging on our church’s website. I’m in no way leaving my site here, it’s just we are in a 30 day period of time as a church and I have been writing daily devotional blogs as part of our journey. If you are interested in them, you can see them here. Below if the one from yesturday that I wanted to share as it seems things are tough on a lot of people right now. Thanks for stopping by!)

2 Corinthians 1:8-11 (New International Version)

“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.”
