“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1: 27

Can you fix everyone’s problems? Does the church do enough to help others in this world? Do you? Does Jesus really say to take care of everyone’s needs at your own expense?

This study, we dig into the Bible to see just how vital it is that we are helping others and making a tangible difference. While there is overwhelming need in the world around us, there is instruction on how to know where you are to step in and how to do so.

We also cover how to help others when you are in need yourself. God does not call us to a life style that He does not provide for so a closer look in this area will be of benefit as well.

What does “missional” mean? To some, it’s a term that is slapped on something within church life to make it sound cutting edge. To others, it’s a term used to distinguish themselves from churches they perceive as being social clubs.

In this message, missional living is a challenge and calling as defined in the Word within God’s plan. It’s a way of intentional living in the Christian’s life to make a difference around us and the world abroad.

Pastor Wynand DeWet from One Plus God Ministries shares from his heart, calling, and experience to call us to missional living with a passion I have not experienced in a long time. His family moved to the United States from South Africa five years ago and has a unique view into this life calling.

Take some time and invest into this message. Let your eyes be opened to some new areas of the world we live in. Be challenged to see cultures and struggles outside of our daily life. Get excited that if you have accepted Jesus as Leader and Forgiver in your life, that you are part of a massive and powerful movement of the Holy Spirit in your community and in the global community as a whole.

I get the opportunity to work with and talk to many in the Marion, Ohio area that are struggling with getting food. It’s one of the reasons we support a local food pantry by volunteering and keeping a small food pantry for individual needs at our church. However, in talking with folks, I am finding a challenge for folks that is understandable but is one to find an answer for.

You see, our area is blessed with several food pantries so whenever I talk to someone in need, that resource comes up. However, I am finding many have a kitchen full of non-perishables from the food pantries but can’t get help in one crucial area…. meat. In other words, “Hamburger Helper” without the hamburger.

Recently, I received some information about a couple who are doing missions in Costa Rica that got my attention for several reasons. First they are not only from the Marion, Ohio area but Luke’s family are old friend’s of my wife’s family. Also, I understand how financially and emotionally challenging being in missions can be. It is not a life you choose but a life that chooses you by God’s calling. Their ministry is currently under a huge strain of lack of financial support and I can’t imagine how that pressure must feel.

At the time I heard about them, I was doing a message on missions at our church on missions and contacted them to put together a video about what they have going on. As I watched the video and saw first hand the work they are doing, I was really taken by the multiple areas God is using them. One thing that really excited me was seeing them pull up in a SUV, open the back gate, and start feeding the people lining up from the streets for free food. While this is going on, Luke is standing and reading the Bible out loud as they minister to the spiritual and physical needs of those they serve.
