Should We Really Hate Religion?
Posted in Messages and Thoughts, Uncategorized, tagged Christ follower, hate, hyprocrite, religion, spiritual, video, why, you tube on January 12, 2012| 6 Comments »
There is a video circulating called “Why I Hate Religion but Love Jesus”. You can see it here….
As I watched it, I started scrolling through the comments on the You Tube page to see how different people were reacting to it. When I did I noticed two things; how many people were commenting in a quick manner and how many emotional responses there were on all sides. The simple fact is this video represents a much larger discussion that is going on today.
“Religion” is a hot button term. I get it. Some people think it’s judgmental, dead, and evil. Some responses were from people’s hurt, disgust, and boiled up from emotions from their past experiences. Others were confused because you say are a Christian but you say you are not “religious” and find that suspect. Others are angry because they cherish that “Old Time Religion” and don’t understand why we have to water things down. Then there is the uproar of Christians who applaud the message as Christ followers tired of the “religious leaders” hypocrisy and lack of love.

Bill Maher’s Religulous

I just saw today that Bill Maher has a movie coming out called “Religulos”. In the same spirit of Michael Moore type movies, Maher will make a nice little agenda piece against the dangers and lunicy of people who buy into “religion”. I’m sure it will be witty, sharp, and not worth my time (though I admit I will probably watch it once it hits DVD out of morbid curiosity.)
Why the distaste on my part? Can’t I handle someone who disagress with me? Sure I can. If you really look at it, Mahr’s not even coming after just Christianity but all religions. Don’t I have a sense of humor? Sure I do. Actually I used to watch Mahr’s show on HBO and then ABC before he got fired over his 9/11 comments. However, either he has gotten worse or I have grown out of it but Mahar just strikes me as an arrogant, bitter man who wields his little bit of knowledge like a loaded gun.

I have come across a blog that I find very interesting. I have a lot more readng to do to get a better feel for where the author is coming from but it has caught my interest enough to keep going back.
The blog is called “Unmasking the goddess: a Christ follower looks into goddess spirituality”
If you are a pagan or a Chrsitian wanted to understand the pagan belief better, this may be of interest to you.
I will give you a link to get started to a blog entitled “Why I’m a Christian, Not a Witch“. It will give you a basic understanding of the author’s personal beliefs but if you a pagan, don’t write her off due to the title. I think you may be surprised by her blogs.
Another interesting blog series of her’s is “So a goddess-centered pagan and a Chritian sat down to talk…..” where she and a pagan women dialouge in a respectful, loving way. Very insightful.
Welcome
Hi, I'm Tom and this is my web-site. Sometimes, within ministry, it seems there are only two options.....to be a believer of the Scripture and be seen as being self righteous, judgmental, and hyprocritical or believe you have to water down the Bible to being loving, merciful, and full of grace. Well, I fall in the middle of all that...I am an emerging conservative. I am in love with the community and relational spirituality as seen in the Bible and the ministry of Jesus Christ and believe we can have it here today! Join in on the conversation, won't you?Archives
