Well, I’m back in our second home which is Townsend, Tennessee! I have a buddy named Darren who pastor’s a church here called “Church of the Cove”. We first came across the church about 7 years ago when we were visiting the area and they had just started. At the time they were a handful of folks in a school gym. Today, they are about 250 meeting a building on some property they bought on faith about 4 years ago.
I really enjoy my relationship with Brother D (as I call him) and enjoy are growing friendship. We have met often in the past over the years including meals, a retreat with a third pastor in Florida, and a trip with his staff (and a buddy of mine from church) to Catalyst a few months back. We have a similar vision and still praying over and discussion how that may take form over the next several years.
Today was a step in that process. Not only did I get the honor of spending a Sunday with them but to be able to share with them about our church community and vision as well. I forgot it was two services so I used all my best jokes in the first service and then had nothing left to give. At least that’s what I told them and a gy said you weren’t funny then either! Actually, that part didn’t happen but it would have been funny if it did.
After church, I was getting ready to leave and “D” caught me, told me to grab my Bible, and come back in. When I did, I found that a small group was having lunch and a small Bible study. It was a great study and I appreciated everyone sharing and listening to me as well. Darren introduced the verse of II Corinthians 10:4 and we talked about strongholds as well as the power of prayer in our lives. I brought out some points in Collosians 4:2 on prayer that I am pretty passionate about. To my dismay, I found Darren is talking about that verse (and only that verse) on Wednesday night at thier main church Bible study. I apologized that I hoped I didn’t mess up anything he had planned but he felt it was conformation that this verse is needed to be studied in thier church right now which is all good.
Now I’m at my favorite coffee cafe which is right in the middle of town. Last year, a young couple from Darren’s church bought it and I like to support them. They are a neat couple that are passonite about Christ. It is the best place for a hot chocolate and internet access in the hills so stop by when you come through town.
Well, the pastor retreat starts tommorow so I doubt I’ll have much the next couple days but if I do, I’ll jump back on.
Blessings!
