Right now, we are starting a new message series at The Shepherd’s Fellowship that I’m calling “One Less Hypocrite”. When I was studying for the introductory message, I came across an interesting thought.

When they were doing the research for a book called “Unchurched”, the Barna institute surveyed non-Christians about how they felt about Christians as a whole. The following are answers they recieved that at least 70% of those surveyed said about Christians: antihomosexuals, judgmental, hypocritical, out of touch, old fashioned, too involved in politics, and insensitive.

I did not find this too surprising as I have heard these impressions before and even seen them in action over the years. Here’s the thing that made me wonder.

The Shepherd’s Nook and The Shepherd’s Fellowship is bringing Christian Recording artist, Warren Barfield to Marion! You know Warren from his songs on Klove and the River including 10 hours, Mistaken, My Heart Goes Out and his hit from the movie Fireproof called “Love is Not a Fight”.

This will also be an event to help Soles for Souls, a ministry out of Nashville that works to get shoes to people in need. You will see below how you can contribute to this powerful ministry and save money at the same time.

Warren will be at the River Valley High School Auditorium on Friday, May 22nd at 7:00pm. The following is the ticket prices (which go on sale on Monday, 4/27/09 at The Shepherd’s Nook).

UPDATE: This concert is now FREE as we will be having a Love Gift offering instead at the show. A special thank you to Warren Barfield for offering this!

We hear at the store all the time that Marion wants to have more Christian concerts in town and we were thrilled when this opportunity came up. Come support local ministry and have a great night as well!

What is Town Hall for Hope?

Town Hall for Hope is your opportunity to sit down with people in your community for a nationwide town hall meeting led by Dave Ramsey. Thousands of venues across the country will host the event, broadcasting Dave’s live presentation. In the opening half hour, Dave will offer straight talk about the economy, recession, foreclosures and more. He’ll carefully explain where we’ve come from, where we are now, and what we should be doing with our money during this time. Then, Dave will spend an hour answering your questions live!

We’ll take questions by phone, email, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and more!

Who is Dave Ramsey?

Dave Ramsey is a personal money-management expert, an extremely popular national radio personality and best-selling author of The Total Money Makeover. In his latest book, a follow-up of his enormously successful New York Times best-sellers Financial Peace and More Than Enough, Ramsey exemplifies his life’s work of teaching others how to be financially responsible, so they can acquire enough wealth to take care of loved ones, live prosperously into old age, and give generously to others.

Starting this weekend: Message Series through the letter from James; early church leader and Jesus’ half brother

Many people who have been turned off from church claim it is because of Christian hypocrites from thier past and current lives. While many of us know that no one is perfect, there is also a valid claim within these statements. We all know that far too often, some people do not practice what they preach and many are left in the wake.

(UPDATE: Seriously…. this has got to be one of the lamest posts I have ever written but still gets the most views =) If you want something of more substance, you may want to check out this one. However, if you are dead set on this little lame post… enjoy!)

For the most part, the people I have known who have grown older, have done so in a graceful way. They become a little more at peace, enjoy the grandkids, get a little frustrated by retirement, and tend to have a peaceful way about them. However, I have noticed that several folks on TV when they grow older, get a little mean.

Interesting Holy Week Plan

I got this this morning from a friend and thought it was interesting enough to share….

Sunday:  Welcome God into your home.

Monday:  clean your house (cleanse your house of anything unpleasing to God).

Tuesday:  Ephe 1:15  Honoring the Lord’s authority by declaring His lordship and submitting your life to Him.

Wednesday:  Honor Him through His word by gathering with friends and family for a Bible Study.

Thursday:  Intercede for others; as Jesus was at the Garden praying we are to pray for others.

Friday:  Sacrifice to help someone else in some way.

Saturday:  Meditate on what God has done and prepare for Sunday.
