Hi guys, The Home Group (about 10 of us who get together once a week for worship, study and fun) I go to is currently going through the book “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. We read and then discuss one chapter a week.
The first couple chapters were ….. good. But then, once we hit chapter 3, it got really, really good. There are many challenging thoughts from the Scripture that we have loved digging into and discussion the life application of them. A lot of times I find it disheartening when someone tells me what they feel the Bible says but it doesn’t. Thing’s people were taught growing up or seen in the lives of others but never read for themselves. This is not a book that does that. It is raw and straight forward without being over your head.
In one chapter, he addresses what God calls “lukewarm” when it comes to Christians. I thought I’d take a moment to list them here…. (Though, I’m cheating a tad, this is a copy and paste fromwww.downwritehonest.com which they typed out of the book (again) “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan.)
“Lukewarm people give money to charity and to the church. . . as long as it doesn’t impinge on their standard of living.” (pg. 59, ARC)
“Lukewarm people don’t really want to be saved from their sin; they want only to be saved from the penalty of their sin.” (pg. 60, ARC)
“Lukewarm people call ‘radical’ what Jesus expected of all His followers.” (pg. 61, ARC)
“Lukewarm people rarely share their faith with their neighbors, coworkers, or friends.” (pg. 61, ARC)
“Lukewarm people gauge their morality or ‘goodness’ by comparing themselves to the secular world.” (pg. 62, ARC)
“Lukewarm people say they love Jesus, and He is, indeed, a part of their lives. But only a part. They give Him a section of their time, their money, and their thoughts, but He isn’t allowed to control their lives.” (pg. 62, ARC)
“Lukewarm people love others, but not as much as they love themselves.” (pg. 63, ARC)
“The world needs more Christians who don’t tolerate the complacency of their own lives.” (pg. 173, ARC)
As you can see, Chan doesn’t pull punches but then again, this stuff is too important to sugar coat it. If you are interested in learning more about this topic, you can….
– Stop by The Shepherd’s Nook and pick one up
– Come join us on Thursday nights (Just contact me and I’ll give ya more details – www.theshepherdsfellowship.org) (We also have a Tuesday night group doing the same book if Thursdays don’t work for you)
– Dig into the Scripture…don’t know where to start, again touch base with me and I’ll help any way I can Blessings!
